In the COVID-19 Era, Effects of Job Stress, Coping Strategies, Meaning in Life and Resilience on Psychological Well-Being of Women Workers in the Service Sector

The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors affecting the psychological well-being by using variables of job stress, coping strategies, meaning of life, and resilience to improve the quality of working life during COVID-19. The subjects were 135 adult women working for banks. Data were collected by having the subjects fill out a paper-and-pencil questionnaire, and analyzed through t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. The subjects’ psychological well-being showed positive correlations with the social support-seeking coping mechanism (r = 0.33, p < 0.001), problem-solving-focused coping mechanism (r = 0.55, p < 0.001), meaning in life (r = 0.45, p < 0.001), and resilience (r = 0.37, p < 0.001). Psychological well-being showed negative correlations with job stress (r = −0.44, p < 0.001) and avoidance-focused coping mechanism (r = −0.28, p = 0.001). The factors affecting the psychological well-being were problem-solving-focused coping mechanism (β = 0.35, p < 0.001), job role stress (β = −0.24, p < 0.001), meaning inlife (β = 0.29, p < 0.001), avoidance-focused coping mechanism (β = −0.23, p < 0.001), and resilience (β = 0.15, p = 0.023). It is necessary to formalize psychological intervention to induce the improvement of the quality of work life by increasing the psychological well-being of working women during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is suggested that intervention is made in consideration of variables identified as influencing factors to increase the psychological well-being of women workers.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Happiness is an important factor in life, and food literacy (FL) has been emphasized as a core concept for a happy and healthy life. This study examined the level of happiness of Seoul citizens according to their sociodemographic factors and their association with FL. SUBJECTS/METHODS This study used the data from the Seoul Food Survey, a cross-sectional study conducted on 4,039 Seoul citizens from September to October 2021. FL was measured using a validated questionnaire consisting of 33 items from 3 sub-domains: 14 items in the nutrition and safety domain, 8 items in the cultural and relational domain, and 11 items in the socio-ecological domain. Statistical analysis involved descriptive statistics and multivariate regression analysis. RESULTS Various sociodemographic factors, such as household income, subjective health status, and food insecurity, were found to be associated with the level of happiness. The level of FL was also associated with the happiness scores. After adjusting for variables associated with happiness, the participants with the highest quartile FL scores were 7.32 times more likely to respond that they were happy than those with the lowest FL score. Three FL domains and total FL showed linear increases in overall happiness after controlling for subjective health status and sociodemographic factors ( P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS After adjusting for the related covariates, higher levels of FL were associated with higher scores in happiness. Based on this study, it would be meaningful to evaluate ways to intervene in FL to improve the level of happiness among the general population.

Factors Influencing Post-traumatic Growth (PTG) in Young Adults with Trauma during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Retrospective Study

Most of the early adults in Korea have more than one traumatic experience during COVID-19 pandemic. The experience of a traumatic event causes psychological distress of the individual, making daily life difficult, and suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and anxiety. However, individuals who responded well to post-traumatic stress develop into a different level of competence and value than their pre-traumatic level of adaptation after trauma. The aim of this study was to analyze factors related to the levels of Post-traumatic Growth (PTG) in young adults with trauma, using the variables of the impact of event, ego-resilience, social support, meaning in life, fear of intimacy during the COVID-19 pendemic. Data were collected from 152 young adults in 4 cities from Macromill Embrain, a company specializing in the collection of data from online questionnaires, which have been created as online questionnaires. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlational coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Traumas frequently experienced by respondents were traffic accidents and the death of family members or relatives, and the common time was two to three years ago. Respondents' PTG showed positive correlation with egoresilience, support from significant others, support from the family, support from friends, and meaning in life. PTG showed negative correlation with impact of event and fear of intimacy. Factors influencing PTG of respondents were the meaning in life (β = 0.38, p < 0.001), ego-resilience (β = 0.28, p < 0.001), support from friends (β = 0.17, p = 0.020), and impact of event (β = 0.13, p = 0.046). Influencing factors account for 41.0% of PTG in young adults. It is necessary to consider the variables o f the research results revealed in education and counseling for PTG in young adults.
