Nowadays, medicinal herbs and their phytochemicals have emerged as a great therapeutic option for many disorders. However, poor bioavailability and selectivity might limit their clinical application. Therefore, bioavailability is considered a notable challenge to improve bio-efficacy in transporting dietary phytochemicals. Different methods have been proposed for generating effective carrier systems to enhance the bioavailability of phytochemicals. Among them, nano-vesicles have been introduced as promising candidates for the delivery of insoluble phytochemicals. Due to the easy preparation of the bilayer vesicles and their adaptability, they have been widely used and approved by the scientific literature. The first part of the review is focused on introducing phytosome technology as well as its applications, with emphasis on principles of formulations and characterization. The second part provides a wide overview of biological activities of commercial and non-commercial phytosomes, divided by systems and related pathologies. These results confirm the greater effectiveness of phytosomes, both in terms of biological activity or reduced dosage, highlighting curcumin and silymarin as the most formulated compounds. Finally, we describe the promising clinical and experimental findings regarding the applications of phytosomes. The conclusion of this study encourages the researchers to transfer their knowledge from laboratories to market, for a further development of these products.

A szervezetünket érő reaktív oxigén gyökök olyan súlyos betegségek kiváltói lehetnek, mint például különböző hiperproliferatív bőrbetegségek vagy akár a bőr daganatos elváltozása. Néhány gyógynövény kivonat széles körben elterjedt antioxidáns forrásként több készítményben is megtalálható. Az antioxidáns terápia szerepe egyre jelentősebb a különböző gyulladással járó folyamatokban. Különböző innovatív formulációk lehetőséget biztosítnak a fitofarmakonok hatásának növelésére. A Plantago lanceolata bioaktív vegyelüteinek gyulladáscsökkentő, antioxidáns és baktericid hatása egyaránt jól ismert. Az alábbi kísérletsorozat célja egy olyan új típusú folyadékkristály rendszer formulálása volt, amely amellett, hogy megvédi a Plantago lanceolata kivonatot annak hidrolítikus bomlásától, növeli az extractum biohasznosulását is. Tekintettel arra, hogy a gyógyszerkészítmények biztonságossága kiemelkedően fontos szempont a gyógyszerformulálás során, az alkalmazott segédanyagokat és összetételeket, azok biokompatibilitását, különböző in vitro módszerekkel vizsgáltuk humán keratinocita (HaCaT) sejtvonalon. Az előzetes citotoxicitás vizsgálatok alapján a kiválasztott felületaktív anyagaink a Labrasol, Lauroglycol 90, és Gelucire 44/14 voltak. A Plantago kivonat kioldódási sebességét Franz diffúziós cella segítségével határoztuk meg. A gyógyszerhordozó rendszerek antioxidáns tulajdonságait MDA (malonaldehid), valamint DPPH (2,2-difenil-1-pikril-hidrazil) antioxidáns tesztekkel vizsgáltuk. Eredményeink alapján a formulált készítmények a hatóanyag gyors felszívódását biztosítják azáltal, hogy az alkalmazott penetrációfokozó segédanyagok reverzibilisen módosítják a stratum corneum barrier tulajdonságait. Ezek a segédanyagok nem csak biztonságosan alkalmazhatók és jól tolerálhatók, de előnyös tulajdonságaik révén képesek a hatóanyag jobb biohasznosulása által javítani a készítmények használhatóságát.

The superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT) is the most frequently injured structure of the musculoskeletal system in sport horses and a common cause for early retirement. This project’s aim was to visualize and measure the strain of the sound, injured, and healing SDFTs in a pony during walk and trot. For this purpose, biplanar high-speed fluoroscopic kinematography (FluoKin), as a high precision X-ray movement analysis tool, was used for the first time in vivo with equine tendons. The strain in the metacarpal region of the sound SDFT was 2.86% during walk and 6.78% during trot. When injured, the strain increased to 3.38% during walk and decreased to 5.96% during trot. The baseline strain in the mid-metacarpal region was 3.13% during walk and 6.06% during trot and, when injured, decreased to 2.98% and increased to 7.61%, respectively. Following tendon injury, the mid-metacarpal region contributed less to the overall strain during walk but showed increased contribution during trot. Using this marker-based FluoKin technique, direct, high-precision, and long-term strain measurements in the same individual are possible. We conclude that FluoKin is a powerful tool for gaining deeper insight into equine tendon biomechanics.
