“…The suction mechanical trephine used for the host had the features of a gun-sight alignment system for reliable centering, a 360°limbal suction ring that secures the trephine to the eye and ensures perpendicularity of the cut, a support surface on either side of the disposable razor blade that holds the donor cornea during cutting to create near-vertical uniform wound margins, rotation of the trephine with a manually operated gear system for smooth cutting, and a calibration device that governs the extension of the blade and also allows cutting [26].…”

“…The donor cornea was then punched using an 8.5 mm suction punch (Hanna Suction System, Moria-Dugast). 11 This punch consists of a concave polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon) well in which the donor corneal-scleral shell is secured by gentle suction. A cylindrical guide ensures that the disposable razorblade trephine is perpendicular during punching from the endothelial aspect.…”

“…The corneas can be trephinated with either suction-assisted trephines, which include the Hanna, Hessburg-Barron, Krumeich and Liebermann trephine systems, or free-standing, non-guarded, or handlemounted disposable trephines (Foster et al 2005). Waring and Hanna (1989) reported the use of a suction-assisted punch block and trephine system designed for PK which could provide precise depth calibration. However, their study showed that it was difficult to use the trephines and punches to obtain a well-centred and precise circular graft with a perfect geometrical match between the epithelial, stromal and endothelial margins, which was the ideal situation for the incision of donor and recipient corneas (Van Rij and Waring 1988;Pflugfelder et al 1992).…”
