The Global Impact of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) Regarding the Survival of a Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma in a Tertiary Hospital

Abstract: A biliopancreatic EUS carried out during the 2 months prior to the start of the treatment of the pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma has a statistically significant impact on the patient survival rate. We believe that this is due to the possibility of a very-early-stage diagnosis of the adenocarcinoma permitted by the use of this technique.

“…These advances in tissue procurement and diagnosis have resulted in improved patient survival in pancreatic cancer. 2,3 In a population-based study of more than 8000 patients with pancreatic cancer, the median survival time for patients who underwent staging by EUS evaluation was significantly longer than those without EUS evaluation. 3 This is because an accurate diagnosis facilitates early initiation of appropriate therapy which in turn favorably impacts patient survival.…”
