The Geometric Picture of Generalized-Cp and Higgs-Family Transformations in the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model

Abstract: In the two-Higgs-doublet model (THDM), generalized-CP transformations (ϕi → Xij ϕ * j where X is unitary) and unitary Higgs-family transformations (ϕi → Uij ϕj ) have recently been examined in a series of papers. In terms of gauge-invariant bilinear functions of the Higgs fields ϕi, the Higgs-family transformations and the generalized-CP transformations possess a simple geometric description. Namely, these transformations correspond in the space of scalar-field bilinears to proper and improper rotations, respe… Show more

“…Ferreira, Haber, and Silva [386] have proved that i) except for the class VI potential, all other five classes of potentials can be obtained through multiple applications of HF symmetries; ii) one can obtain all six classes of scalar potentials through multiple applications of the standard CP symmetry in different bases. An interesting geometric interpretation of these properties is presented in [398].…”

“…The space of electroweak-gauge orbits of Higgs fields (the orbit space) was first represented via bilinears for 2HDMs, [31][32][33][34][35][36][37], and then extended to N doublets in [13].…”

“…The potential (11) of this model is, besides the point reflection symmetry of type (i), invariant under three GCPs of type (ii); see (9), (10). Requiring also the Yukawa couplings to respect these four GCPs, it was found in [11] that at least two fermion families are necessary in order to have non-vanishing fermion masses.…”
