The Future of Vision: A Review of Electronic Contact Lenses Technology

Abstract: The field of vision correction is constantly evolving to meet the increasing demand for more advanced and personalized solutions. Electronic contact lenses (e-CLs) are a new and emerging technology that has the potential to revolutionize this field and change the way we see and interact with the world. This Review provides a comprehensive overview of e-CL technology, including the current state of the technology, the different types of e-CLs that exist, and their benefits and limitations. It also discusses rec… Show more

“…Though the innovations are abundant, their application in food is at its emerging stage. The basic VR system consisting of HMD and desktop screens is only used in food sensory evaluation; the new lightweight wearable gadgets like wristband-format skin contact conductance sensors, and EEG headbands could be tried in the future and AR contact lens which is highly innovative, and though its application is limited to healthcare monitoring and entertainment it could be tried in future studies (Shaker et al, 2023;Wang, Escobar et al, 2021;Wang, Yap et al, 2021). Likewise, studies on iVR should be improved further so that the participants can walk freely around the VR supermarket, which helps in understanding the consumers' decision-making process.…”

“…As seen in the earlier sections, when the CLBS sensitivity equals or surpasses that of implantable sensors, then typically, the implantable sensor does not flourish. One of the prominent advances in the field of IOP monitoring was the FDA approval of the Sensimed Triggerfish contact lens sensor in 2016 (Triggerfish CLS, Sensimed AG, Lausanne, Switzerland) [111][112][113]. The Triggerfish CLBS is a silicone contact lens that detects changes in the corneoscleral limbus curvature due to changes in IOP variations [114].…”

“…This aesthetic advantage holds particular allure for those who seek not only vision correction but also a seamless integration of eyewear into their overall appearance. [ 3,4 ] Convenience is another driving force behind the widespread adoption of contact lenses. Unlike eyeglasses, contact lenses do not pose challenges during physical activities, making them exceptionally suitable for individuals with active lifestyles.…”
