Superhero movies are now an essential component of the worldwide film business, drawing hundreds of millions of spectators to theatres each year to watch them. The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) from Warner Bros. is one such film series that has significantly contributed to the industry. But the film industry's intricacy extends beyond box office success. A company's entire decision-making, marketing approach, and long-term goal planning, may be significantly impacted by the success or failure of its films. This connection has grown even more complicated, especially after Warner Bros. and Discovery, Inc. merged. This essay will examine the financial effects of the DCEU's performances on Warner Bros. and how those decisions have further shaped the DCEU's future course. This essay will also examine how Warner Bros. exploited its success in the movie business to develop its strategic objectives for the future and what this means for the movie business. The analysis shows that the collaboration between Warner Bros. and the DCEU moulded their own trajectories and established a standard for other studios to follow in the ever-evolving film business.

Dark Knight at Fifteen: An Intersectional Retrospective

Characters within The Dark Knight access intersectional, systemic privileges linked to the performance of masculinity, whiteness, neoliberal class consciousness, and heteronormativity. Using cultural studies as the framework and intersectionality as the point of departure, this paper interrogates how kyriarchy—a way to understand intersecting layers of privilege—buttresses neoliberal ideologies, especially in the first decade of the 21st century. Hegemonic masculinity is both reinforced and reinvented in a homosocial erotic triangle between Batman, Harvey Dent, and Bruce Wayne, which is subsequently shattered by the Joker, a queer failed masculine subject who fosters intimacy through excessive violence. Even this powerful disruption, however, emerges from the intersecting privileges of a cis white man and contrasts sharply with both the situations of Black characters in the film and lived encounters between Black Americans and the State. Batman’s appropriation of Blackness in his suit, juxtaposed with the undeniable whiteness read on his bared chin, signals a privilege that allows him to act outside the law, reinventing kyriarchal and neoliberal sovereign exceptionalism. Examining The Dark Knight through the lenses of cultural studies and intersectionality allows a better understanding of systemic inequality as conveyed through media, which is crucial to undoing conferred dominance and the exploitative hegemony of our world.

Objective. The current article empirically investigated differences in fandom and rivalry between fans of a sport team and fans of the Marvel or DC comic brands. Methods. An online survey was distributed to fans of a sport team and/or the comic genre to measure how fans identified with their favorite brands (both sport and comics), and how they felt toward their rival brands. Results. Results illustrated that sport fans reported higher identification with their favorite teams than did fans of Marvel or DC toward their favorite brands. Additionally, fans of sport reported more negative perceptions of their rival teams than fans of the comic genre. Finally, people who were fans of both a sport team and the comic genre were more positive regarding their rival than fans who were a fan of only a sport team or the comic genre. Conclusion. Theoretical implications include support for the measures in a nonsport setting along with support for the common in-group model. Practical implications deriving from the findings are discussed, and avenues for future research are presented.
