The expression and role of TRPV2 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: Background: Transient receptor potential vanilloid 2 (TRPV2) was recently shown to be involved in migrant potentials. The present study aimed to investigate its role in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Methods: Knockdown experiments were conducted using TRPV2 siRNA in human ESCC cell lines, and anti-tumor effects were analyzed. The gene expression profiles of cells were analyzed using a microarray method. An immunohistochemical staining was performed on 62 primary tumor samples. Results: TRPV2 overex… Show more

“…The knockdown of TRPV2 in ESCC cells decreased proliferation, cell cycle progression, and the ability to invade and migrate. Moreover, the authors found downregulated WNT/β-catenin or basal cell carcinoma signaling-related genes [74]. TRPV1 and TRPV4 were both found to be expressed on mRNA and protein level in non-tumorous esophageal squamous cells and overexpressed in ESCC cells.…”

“…Protein (IHC) 62 ESCC tissue samples Analysis of TRPV2 expression (low/high); worse overall survival and 5 year survival of patients with high TRPV2 protein expression [74] TRPC6 mRNA and protein expression levels are increased in human ESCC tissues compared to normal esophageal tissues. Furthermore, the inhibition of TRPC6 in ESCC cells led to decreased Ca 2+ signaling and cell cycle arrest via Cdk1.…”

“…Increased TRPV2 expression predicted higher disease-free survival is a subset of patients with triple-negative breast cancer [ 114 ]. TRPV2 overexpression is also present in patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma associated with metastatic disease [ 104 ]. In prostatic adenocarcinoma, TRPV2 overexpression predicts the castration-resistant phenotype.…”
