Purpose: Data is collected from all aspects of our lives. Yet, data alone is useless unless converted into information and, ultimately, knowledge. Since data analysts, in most cases, are not the ones in charge of making decisions based on their findings, communicating the results to stakeholders is crucial to passing on information of data-driven insights. That is where the discipline of data storytelling comes into play. Often, data storytelling is considered an effective data visualization. Creating data stories is a structured approach to communicating data insights as an interplay of the three elements data, visuals, and narrative. Sharing data-driven insights to support better business decisions require data storytellers skilled in the “art of storytelling”. Design/Method/Approach: In this paper, the authors discuss the use of data storytelling in business to communicate data to stakeholders for improving decision-making. The findings are derived from (1) an extensive literature review and (2) a qualitative analysis of 13 expert interviews with people incorporating data storytelling into their daily work within their jobs in international companies. Findings: These interviews revealed the importance of providing a flexible tool to support knowledge sharing for people communicating complex data to internal stakeholders. Combining literature with qualitative research enabled the authors to create the "data storytelling cheat sheet", a guide for practical data storytelling. Theoretical Implications: Theories like the Psychological distance or the idea of the theory of dual processing dual are used to base our research idea on. There was no new theory built in this paper. Practical Implications: One of the results is an implementation systematic cheat sheet that helps practitioners to implement data storytelling in their daily business. Originality/Value: The theory of data storytelling is overwhelming the first time to use and based on an empirical study with experts in the field a guideline for hands on use was developed under a based on a cleanly defined empirical study. Research Limitations/Future Research: The paper focus on internal data storytelling – maybe with external stakeholders it might be slightly different. El objetivo fue analizar el conocimiento desde la visión de estudiantes y docentes de la carrera de Odontología de la Universidad Católica de Cuenca Campus Azogues. Bajo enfoque cuantitativo, descriptivo y transversal, mediante una encuesta digital validada, obteniéndose 28 respuestas de docentes y 43 estudiantes. La estadística descriptiva presentó tablas de frecuencias, y la inferencial prueba Chi. Los resultados la presentaron como una herramienta con fines didácticos (50,74%), sirve para dinamizar la enseñanza (47,89%) desde la visión de docentes (44%), en el caso de estudiantes no tienen una idea específica sobre su función (82%), pero la consideran útil con fines didácticos (66%). Lo evidenciado permitirá presentar una propuesta innovadora para su aplicación, tal como se la ha considerado en otros escenarios académicos, demostrando que se puede mejorar la transmisión de conocimientos, desarrollar destrezas y habilidades, muy pertinentes en la formación de profesionales en el área odontológica.

Educators must adapt the contextual model of teaching with educational technology to improve teaching and learning English quality. Digital storytelling is one of meaningful technology that can enhance students' speaking skills. This study examined the effectiveness of digital storytelling based on multimodal elements on EFL learners' speaking performance. A quasi-experimental design with a control and experimental group was employed. The sample consisted of 40 students of Teacher Education of Early Childhood Education. Both classes studied English for Early Childhood Education. Sample in the experimental group was treated by digital storytelling based on multimodal elements and local contents. The control group studied the storytelling based on a conventional video. The instrument used ware speaking rubric, Likert-Scale questionnaires, and interview. Data analysis for students' speaking performance consisted of the inter-reliability test, normality test, homogeneity, test of linearity, and ANCOVA. The procedures of thematic analysis adopted inductive and deductive coding. The result of study shows that digital storytelling with multimodal elements effectively enhances EFL learners speaking performance. The descriptive statistics show that students in the experimental group (M=85.4) significantly outperformed the control group (M=76.9) on their speaking performance by digital storytelling. The students perceived a positive perception of digital storytelling based on multimodal elements in learning English in terms of enjoyment of multimodal features such as visual and auditory and values depicted from local values. The study also explored several perceived obstacles in using digital storytelling in speaking, such as digital and technical literacy, language skill, creativity and innovative thinking, and collaborative learning.
