Lean Management (LM) is one of the most widely used business strategies for the last three decades. Industry 4.0 shows all the promise of the fourth industrial revolution using automation technologies like cyber-physical systems, internet of things and cloud computing. The purpose of this paper is to propose an integration model of Industry 4.0 and LM. A summary literature review of Industry 4.0 and LM is carried out to construct a theoretical model of integration. The previous literature is used to develop and propose an integration model of Industry 4.0 and LM. The horizontal, vertical and end-to-end engineering integration model are integrated with LM methodology. Testable research propositions are proposed between Industry 4.0 and LM. The model proposed is novel and it raises the important issue of integration of LM with Industry 4.0. This is the first paper which proposes the integration framework of LM with Industry 4.0.

The primary objective of the present paper is to explore the link between supply logistic integration, competitive performance, lean process and supply performance. To achieve our research objectives, we develop a unique model, which conceptualizes the said relationship. Porter's value chain and the resource based views are used as theatrical lenses of the current study using Amos software package based on a data set of 220 Iraqi manufacturing firms. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is employed to analyze the dataset. The findings of the study show that the there was a positive relationship between supply logistics and competitive performance (operational) and supply performance and lean processes were partially mediating this relationship. The study also shows the importance of managing both internal (production processes) and external processes (logistics and supply chain) of firms' operations in an integrated manner in which supply chain management acts through key internal processes to impact competitive performance. This is the first study, which uncovers what happens "in between" the incoming materials and the end outputs delivered by firms into the market. This "in between black box" is important in improving our understanding of how inbound supply activities are translated into outbound competitive performance outcomes.

Low-Carbon Initiatives of Logistics Service Providers: The Perspective of Supply Chain Integration

Logistics service providers (LSPs) are under tremendous pressure in the fight against global climate change. While existing research has examined the operational importance of LSPs in decarbonizing supply chains, the strategic perspective of LSPs on low carbon supply chains has not received enough attention. Motivated by the evolving role of LSPs from a service provider to a resource integrator in the supply chain, drawing on the relational view of inter-organizational competitive advantage, this paper focuses on LSPs’ low-carbon supply chain integration (SCI) and empirically investigates its drivers and outcomes. Data from 124 Chinese LSPs shows that LSPs’ corporate environmental responsibility and customer environmental requirement have positive relationships with LSPs’ low-carbon SCI, and that LSPs’ low-carbon SCI is positively related to LSPs’ environmental and financial performance. In addition, LSPs’ environmental performance is found to have a positive relationship with LSPs’ financial performance. These findings not only provide new insights for LSPs’ low-carbon supply chain initiatives, but also highlight the importance of SCI as a strategic approach in low-carbon supply chain management.
