This study explores the personal event portfolios of amateur athletes, differentiating between those who pursue a specialized career within one sport and those who diversify within multiple sports. The impetus for this paper was the observation made in previously published research that many sport-event tourists participate in multiple sports. The twin objectives of the study are to better understand highly involved participants and to draw implications that could contribute to the events' and the country's competitiveness in sport event tourism. The study also addresses the question of whether or not these portfolio choices emerge as involvement increasesin other words, do highly involved amateur athletes tend to specialize in one sport, as suggest by recreation specialization theory? A total of 6691 participants were surveyed online in five events (cross-country run, Nordic ski, halfmarathon run, open-water swim, and road cycling), out of which 2329 were identified as pursuing a portfolio strategy. The major contributions of this paper include identification of a large number of significant differences between "specialized" and "diversified" portfolios. Planning and marketing implications that can potentially enhance the attractiveness of individual and collectively marketed events are also discussed. ARTICLE HISTORY

Hosting sport events to raise money for charitable causes has become pervasive, yet we know little about why individuals choose to participate or not. This study examined the differences between participants and nonparticipants of a hallmark small-scale charity running event. Data were collected via an online survey containing measures of charity event participation frequency, enduring involvement, negotiation efficacy, family support, running participation patterns, and demographics. Nonparticipants were also asked about event-related participation constraints. The sample was comprised of N = 322 event participants and N = 112 nonparticipants (committed runners). A one-way ANOVA demonstrated no statistically significant differences between the two independent samples with respect to the variables of interest. Nonparticipants indicated relatively low constraints to event participation. The most commonly reported constraints solicited in an open-ended question format were injuries and participation in an alternative event. Findings revealed that event participants and nonparticipants are very similar in terms of their running participation patterns. However, definite nonnegotiable constraints or preplanned involvement with other events inhibited participation in the studied event. Over time, this can result in either the expansion or contraction of their involvement in the running event. By illuminating nonnegotiable constraints, this study may help event organizers improve planning and management towards event sustainability.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the development of recreational sports through tourism potential in the district of Gunungkidul which is focused on the tourism object of pindul cave. So far, the potential of tourism in Pindul Cave cave has not been utilized for the aspect of recreational sports, of course this will be the tourist attraction when the development of recreational sports in participate in the tourism area management. This research is a qualitative research using the methods of analysis (1) Strenghts, (2) Weakness, (3) Oppotunities, and (4) Threats (SWOT) with the initial step of observation followed by interview and documentation. All subjects became respondents for data with interview and documentation techniques. The results of this research will be a guide for managers of tourism objects and tourism agencies to develop recreational sports that can be developed so that tourists can vacation at the same time doing physical activities of recreational sports. from the results of research obsercation, interviewing and analyzing the documentation, the strategy to develop the vacation sports can be done by the manager and the tourism office to build facilities and infrastructure in the land that is still empty, empowering the surrounding community and carry out evaluation in improving tour packages and sports games facilities Keywords-potential of tourism, sports recreation I.
