The Evaluation of Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) Leaf Extract Inclusion in Freezing Medium on Quality Parameters of Buffalo Bull Spermatozoa

Abstract: BACKGROUND: The discrepancy between the endogenous antioxidants concentrations and free radicals results in oxidative stress and cellular injury. OBJECTIVE: To appraise the usefulness of Rosemarinus officinalis (RO) aqueous extract in protecting buffalo spermatozoa during freezing / thawing process. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Qualifying ejaculates from four well-restrained bulls were evaluated initially and then diluted in a freezing medium supplemented with RO-0.00, RO0.50%, RO-1.00%, RO-2.00%, and RO-4.00%, c… Show more

“…The addition of a small quantity of these plants to the daily diet of rams showed an improvement in some reproductive parameters including scrotal circumference, sperm concentration, testosterone level, and sexual behavior in addition to some biochemical changes in blood and sperm. There are few reports on how Artemisia herba alba and/or Rosmarinus officinalis affects reproduction function (15, 18, 62) many of which targeted in vitro study (Ahmed et al, 2022 ; Malo et al, 2011 ; Motlagh et al, 2014 ) or female reproduction (Akpa et al, 2012 ; Smeti et al, 2015 ). To our knowledge, this study is the first to investigate the effects of Artemisia herba alba and/or Rosmarinus officinalis on rams' reproductive capacity.…”

“…The specifications of CASA were as follows: Frames acquired 30; frame rate, 60 Hz; minimum cell size, 5 pixels; minimum static contrast, 30; motile, VAP cutoff values 20 μm/s; progressive motile, VAP 80 μm/s, STR 80%, and temperature set 37°C. Two hundred sperm were counted per sample per treatment for different CASA parameters (Ahmed et al., 2019).…”
