The evaluation of fabric treatment by Griff tester and sensory analysis

Abstract: Purpose -The aim of presented investigation was to test developed testing device Griff tester, created for the objective evaluation of textile hand and to compare the obtained data with sensory evaluation results of textiles, subjected to different final treatments. Design/methodology/approach -The effect of two finishing products, i.e. the crease-resistant finishing Knittex w "K" and the softener macro silicone Ultratex w "Ul" upon 100 per cent cotton plain weave fabric was studied by two methods -objective e… Show more

“…For the resin treatment, it is expected to have more 'nervous' and less 'crumplelike' fabrics. This is confirmed by the results obtained, since fabrics treated with a high concentration of resin finishing were significantly more 'nervous' and less 'crumple-like' than the non-treated fabric (Strazdienè et al, 2006).…”

“…Quality Control of Textiles. Sensory evaluation had been applied in the study of the quality of fabrics and textiles (Winakor et al 1980;Chollakup et al 2004;Kim et al 2005;Pense-Lheritier et al 2006;Strazdiene et al 2006). Likewise, comfort and other physiological effects of clothing or apparel/fabrics (Stuart et al 1989, Sweeney and Branson 1990, Barker 2002, Cardello et al 2003, Okabe and Kurokawa 2004 and effects of the design (Sohn 2003) had been measured using sensory analysis.…”

“…softener. In the work of Strazdiene et al (2006) the effect of two finishing products (the crease-resistant finishing Knittex "K" and the softener macro Silicone Ultratex "Ul") upon 100 % cotton plain weave fabric was studied with two methods; objective evaluation (Griff tester) and sensory analysis (by a panel of 11 trained subjects). Objective evaluation was done using a Griff tester device where disc-shaped specimen was extracted through a rounded hole of the stand.…”
