“…Three typical domains-α-helices in the N-terminal first domain, two copper-binding sites containing six histidine residues in the second domain, and β-sheets in the third domain (immunoglobulin-like 42 ZENG domain)-were also found in both subunits. Even though the partial sequences of the two hemocyanin subunits PcHc1 and PcHc2, named HC and HC2, respectively, have been identified by suppression subtractive hybridization, they were not available when our project was initiated (Osuna-Jiménez et al 2014). A positive and significant linear correlation found between the hepatopancreatic copper concentration and the levels of the HEMOCYANIN IN RED SWAMP CRAYFISH transcripts encoding hemocyanins and the expression levels of mRNA of the hemocyanin subunits could be used as molecular biomarkers in environmental monitoring (Osuna-Jiménez et al 2014).…”

There have been no previous studies carried out to investigate the responses of red swamp crayfish to a virus challenge up to the present.…”

“…Procambarus clarkii , the freshwater crayfish is an important commercial species [ 50 , 51 ]. Considering its long lifecycle, wide distribution, and simple anatomy, P. clarkii is often utilized as a typical bioindicator of toxic pollutants in studies on aquatic environments [ 38 , 52 , 53 , 54 ]. Additionally, P. clarkii is considered a model organism for research in aquatic crustaceans [ 55 ].…”
