“…Observance of these steps is required to reach a sustainable innovation in the real world of professional education and assessment. Pioneering work by Maatsch et al (1976) in the early days of the new certification processes of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABME) in the 1970s serves as a template for assessment innovators today.
