This study investigated the parasite fauna in Colossoma macropomum reared at two stocking densities in net-cages of a fish farm in the Matapi River, State of Amapá. Before stocking fish in the net-cages for fattening, fish were examined for parasites and also at the end of 90 and 180 days at densities of 50 and 100 fish m-3 , respectively. All fish were parasitized by one or more species such as Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Piscinoodinium pillulare, Anacanthorus spathulatus, Mymarothecium boegeri, Notozothecium janauachensis, Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) inopinatus and Acarina gen. sp., but the dominance was of I. multifiliis. Parasites presented aggregated dispersion pattern, and there were no differences in the fish relative condition factor between the densities used. There was positive correlation of I. multifiliis abundance and monogenean abundance with length and weight of the hosts. Before fish stocking, the mean intensity and mean abundance of I. multifiliis, A. spathulatus and M. boegeri were lowest when comparing fish at densities of 50 and 100 fish m-3 , which were similar to each other. The mean intensity and mean abundance of N. janauachensis was highest in the density of 50 fish m-3 when comparing the fish before stocking and at a density of 100 fish m-³. The mean abundance of P. (S.) inopinatus was highest in fish kept at 100 fish m-³ when compared to fish before stocking and 50 fish m-³. However, P. pillulare and mites occurred only in density of 50 fish m-3. There was a predominance of ectoparasites and few endoparasites, as expected. Therefore, it is necessary the constant monitoring of the parasites, to better implement control strategies aiming to avoid the occurrence of diseases.

A 60‐day feeding trial was conducted to evaluate effects and interactions of dietary Nano selenium (Nano Se) and vitamin E on performance of rainbow trout under high rearing density (80 kg/m3). Fish (42.6 ± 2.3 g) were stocked into 12 tanks: Control group fed basal diet and three treatment groups fed basal diet supplemented with 1 mg/kg Nano selenium (Nano Se group), 500 mg/kg vitamin E (Vit E group) and both micronutrients (Combination group). Results showed that growth, feed intake, lysozyme activity and agglutination antibody titre were significantly higher in Vit E and Combination groups. The lowest haematocrit, haemoglobin and cortisol levels and highest serum total protein and muscle crude protein were observed in Combination group. Serum globulin content was higher and albumin: globulin ratio was lower in treatment groups compared with Control. Also, the highest muscle catalase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities and lowest malondialdehyde content were observed in Combination group compared with Control. In conclusion, combined supplementation of Nano Se and vitamin E provides a synergistic interaction in preventing the immunosuppressive action of oxidative stress caused by high density and significantly improved antioxidant and immune systems, health status and growth of fish under intensive culture.

Fish immune systems have become the subject of several studies due to the growing development of aquaculture and fisheries, and the demand for healthy produce for human consumption. Among the parasites responsible for diseases in fish farming, helminths stand out because they cause infections in farmed fish and decrease food conversion, zootechnical performance and meat quality. In the present review, the components that participate in the innate and adaptive immune responses of teleost fish that have so far been described are presented in order to summarize the defenses that these hosts have recourse to, in combating different groups of helminth parasites.
