“…Many fields in dentistry have used OT to exploit the advantages of ozone, particularly its effects on wound healing and antimicrobial properties (Akdeniz et al, ; Alpan, Toker, & Ozer, ; Ozdemir, Toker, Balcı, & Ozer, ; Taşdemir, Taşdemir et al, ; Yılmaz et al, ). A few studies (Al Habashneh, Alsalman, & Khader, ; Yılmaz et al, ) have examined OT in non‐surgical periodontal therapy, but there has been no split‐mouth study of OT in periodontal therapy.…”

“…Ozone has positive effects on oxygen metabolism, the antioxidant defense system, and microcirculation (Ahmedi, Ahmedi, Sejfija, Agani, & Hamiti, ). Many fields in dentistry have sought to exploit the proven advantages of OT (Akdeniz et al, ; Karaca, Ergun, & Ozturk, ; Mostafa & Zakaria, ). The principle of OT is the transformation of environmental diatomic oxygen molecules into ozone on contact with a special probe tip on the treated area (Kazancioglu, Kurklu, & Ezirganli, ; Sacco & Campus, ).…”

“…Ozone (O 3 ), consisting of three oxygen atoms, is a highly unstable gas (depending on conditions such as temperature and pressure), which cannot be stored. This component, as an antimicrobial agent, has high oxidation potential against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa (18,19). It also stimulates blood circulation and the immune system.…”

“…A fundamental effect of ozone is improved oxygenation of cells. Furthermore, ozone plasma application activates blood circulation, increases hemoglobin concentration, enhances diapedesis and phagocytosis during inflammatory response, and stimulates all antimicrobial biologic reactions [17]. The reaction of fatty acid peroxidation increases the elasticity of the erythrocyte cell membrane.…”

“…The reaction of fatty acid peroxidation increases the elasticity of the erythrocyte cell membrane. Thanks to this, cells pass more easily through the capillaries, which significantly improves the metabolism of tissues [17].…”
