The Effects of Lubricants on the Disintegration and Dissolution Profile of Metronidazole Tablets Formulated Using Sida acuta Gum as a Binder

Abstract: Aims: This research was done to study the effects of types and concentrations of lubricants on the dissolution and disintegration profile of metronidazole tablets formulated using Sida acuta gum as a binder. Methodology: Sida acuta gum (SAG) was extracted from powdered dried leaves of Sida acuta. Metronidazole granules were produced by wet granulation technique using different concentrations (1 and 2%) of SAG as a binder and mixed with different concentrations (0.5, 1.0, and 1.5%) of magnesium stearate (… Show more

“…Its absorption from the gastrointestinal tract after it is administered orally is very rapid. Its half-life is about 12 h, and it has a mean oral bioavailability from the tablet of 95% when compared to the oral solution [16]. Naproxen causes gastrointestinal disorders like gastrointestinal irritation when administered peroral.…”

“…14 Sida acuta gum has been used as binder, 15 as suspending agent 16 , as polymer matrix former 17 and as mucoadhesive polymer. 18 Metformin is a biguanide antihyperglycemic agent which is used with proper diet and exercise program to improve glucose tolerance in Type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus patients and lower both basal and postprandial plasma glucose. It reduces hepatic glucose production and glucose intestinal absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity by enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.…”
