“…These findings were obtained with 'Fuyu' persimmons grown in New Zealand, Israel and Brazil. In other studies carried out in the western Mediterranean and in the Black Sea region of Turkey, 'Fuyu' persimmon fruit did not develop CI for up to 120 days (Pekmezci et al 1995(Pekmezci et al , 1997 or 30Á90 days (Koyuncu et al 2005) at 08C. The results with 'Jiro' persimmons are supported by a previous study in which they did not develop CI for 90 days at 08C (Ertu¨rk et al 2004).…”

“…The recommended storage and transport temperature for persimmons is therefore 08C (Kitagawa & Glucina 1984;Crisosto 2004). In trials conducted in Turkey with 'Fuyu', the fruit maintained good quality characteristics without CI development for up to 4 months at 08C (Pekmezci et al 1995(Pekmezci et al , 1997 or for 1Á3 months at 08C (Koyuncu et al 2005). On the other hand, 'Fuyu' fruit grown in New Zealand maintained acceptable quality only for 4 weeks (MacRae 1987), for 6 weeks in Israel (Ben-Arie & Zutkhi 1992) and for 8 weeks in Brazil (Brackmann et al 1997) owing to the development of CI.…”
