The effects of hamstring training methods on muscle viscoelastic properties in healthy young individuals

Abstract: Hamstring strain injuries are one of the most common non-contact injuries in sports and have a high recurrence rate that can cause result in time away from competition or impaired performance on return to competition for athletes. 1,2 The causes of the hamstring strain injuries are multifactorial. It is believed that general muscle properties, including passive viscoelastic parameters (muscle tone, elasticity, and stiffness), help to avoid injuries and overtraining. 3 Each viscoelastic parameter plays an impor… Show more

“…Samples' mean age ranged from 19 (Kay et al, 2018) to 28 years (Potier et al, 2009;Seymore et al, 2017). 11 of the 18 studies included males only (Duclay et al, 2009;Guilhem et al, 2013;Franchi et al, 2014;Coratella et al, 2015;Timmins et al, 2016b;Bourne et al, 2017;Abdel-Aziem et al, 2018;Duhig et al, 2019;Delvaux et al, 2020;Benford et al, 2021;Uysal et al, 2021). 15 studies examined FL changes by ultrasound (Blazevich et al, 2007;Duclay et al, 2009;Potier et al, 2009;Guilhem et al, 2013;Franchi et al, 2014;Sharifnezhad et al, 2014;Coratella et al, 2015;Timmins et al, 2016b;Bourne et al, 2017;Seymore et al, 2017;Kay et al, 2018;Ribeiro-Alvares et al, 2018;Duhig et al, 2019;Marušič et al, 2020;Benford et al, 2021).…”

“…Third, although 35 years has been used to distinguish younger than older adults [ 32 , 46 , 47 ], other age classifications could provide different results and interpretations. Additionally, the study of other factors, such as the level of physical activity, work or leisure-time activity [ 60 , 61 , 62 ], among others, could have afforded other relationship patterns to the results. Furthermore, adding other techniques to analyse muscle characteristics, such as surface electromyography, could provide information on normal or unusual activity, such as muscle spasm during the evaluation.…”
