Online activities are a fundamental part of daily life in this digital era and Internet self-efficacy (ISE) became a central construct for the psychologists of virtual environments. The Internet Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Kim and Glassman (2013) is a recent, valid, and reliable 17-item test to assess the ISE. The aim of this research, composed by two studies, was to translate and validate the Italian version of the ISS. In study 1, we evaluated the factorial validity and internal consistency of the Italian version of the ISS on 3724 individuals. In study 2, we tested the ISS external validity relying on the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) and the Internet Addiction Scale (IAS) based on the answers of 244 participants. The findings supported the reliability and validity of the translated ISS and its use for assessing ISE on the Italian population. Implications for researchers and interventions are also discussed.

Creation and Sharing of Lessons Learned by Blogging in the Context of Project-Based Learning

The knowledge acquired during the execution of projects developed in organizations is captured and published in the form of lessons learned with the objective of being able to apply them in subsequent projects. Effectively reused lessons have an impact on projects, for example, by increasing their quality and reducing their execution time. In an educational context, these lessons can be integrated into project-based learning experiences. Lessons are content generated by students for students, in the same or subsequent courses, who could benefit from reading them. We have applied, for four consecutive academic years, a specific cycle of lessons learned management in a course where project-based learning is carried out using a blog developed with Blogger as a platform for publishing and open access to these lessons. We have analysed student opinions about reading, detecting, and generating lessons as well as the profiles of students most likely to detect and generate lessons. A total of 162 students who developed 154 lessons are included in the study. A statistical analysis is performed to evaluate lessons learned generation. The results indicate that lessons learned generated by peers are useful for learning and have a strong influence on the outcomes of their work. The activity of generating new lessons is difficult and moderately satisfying. Finally, the profile of a student who creates quality lessons corresponds to someone brilliant, whose work is valued both by their teammates and themselves, and who is also attentive to the activities carried out in the course. The implications of this work are that lesson generation is well suited to project-based learning and that students generate an interesting number of quality lessons with the instructor's support and encouragement.

Exploring the link between basic ICT competence beliefs and technology use for student teachers and teachers: A use of bifactor exploratory structural equation models

Basic ICT competence beliefs consist of a range of competence dimensions, including communication and collaboration and safety and security. Yet, unclear is if (student) teachers need to overall feel competence in using technology, or is feeling competent in specific competence dimensions sufficient for the use of technology. This study addressed this research lack and examined (a) basic ICT competence beliefs and technology use in different stages of teacher education and (b) the association between basic ICT competence beliefs and various hardware and software used. Data included 338 teachers and 343 student teachers from Germany and were analyzed using bifactor exploratory structural equation models. These models allow us to simultaneously account for general basic ICT competence beliefs (G-Factor) and specific basic ICT competence beliefs (S-Factors). The study found that teachers, on average, reported higher basic ICT competence beliefs than student teachers. For both student teachers and teachers, the use of wikis and forum was linked to higher general ICT competence beliefs. The use of LMS was linked to basic ICT competence beliefs in safety and security and problem solving. The study also identified unique links in both groups, such as wiki and weblog use being linked to higher general ICT competence beliefs for teachers. In various teacher education phases, we can emphasize the need to promote basic ICT competence beliefs to empower teachers in the digital transformation. By interpreting these results, however, it should be noted that our analysis only focused on utilizing particular hardware and software; replications of findings are also needed.
