The effectiveness of poloxamer 407-based new anti-adhesive material in a laminectomy model in rats

Abstract: Purpose In the laminectomy model in rats, to verify antiadhesive effectiveness of the new material, a mixture composed of poloxamer 407, calcium chloride, and xanthorrhizol, we compared it with that of commercially used solution form anti-adhesive agent GUARDIX-SL, Biorane. Materials and methods A total of 108 Sprague-Dawley rats (SD rats) were divided equally into three groups: negative control group (NCG), positive control group (PCG), and experimental group (EG). After exposing the dura on L4 level, we clos… Show more

“…We compared the results of P-ALMC as an anti-adhesive agent with HA-CMC (Guardix, Hanmi Pharmacy, Republic of Korea). It is well known that HA-CMC has been reported to be useful in preventing adhesions in experimental studies [1,6,7,20,22] and is in clinical use in the field of spine surgery [23]. Our newly developed P-ALMC demonstrated similar results to those observed in HA-CMC group in a rabbit model.…”

“…Many factors play a role in amount of peridural scar formation such as postoperative hematoma, postoperative infection and surgical techniques. Improved minimally invasive surgery techniques, many agents and mechanical barriers have been used to accomplish this bothering problem (5,6,12,14,15,17,19,26,(29)(30)(31)33).…”

“…Carboxycellulose with hyaluronic acid is a well-known anti-adhesive material with long-lasting action for about 7 days that is used to separate abutting tissue surfaces [44]. Moreover, this combination has demonstrated a preventive effect on the formation of adhesion in a various surgical fields [45,46].…”
