The effectiveness of honey supplementation in feed for improving goldfish fingerling Carassius auratus immune system against Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria attack

Abstract: The attack of Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria can cause mortality in goldfish approximately 100%. The controlling of this bacterial attack can be done through increased fish immunity. Honey is one of the natural ingredients that increases body immune system. This study aimed to determine the effective dose of honey supplemented in feed to increase goldfish fingerling resistance for disease prevention. Fish used in this study were goldfish fingerlings with 3.5 g average weight. This study was done using experimen… Show more

“…An increased number of leukocytes indicates that the fish is infected, so more leukocytes are produced as an immune response [39]. Treatment with a combination of honey and E. hirta will strengthen the fish's defense system against bacterial infections Compounds in honey boost the immune system of fish, so they could act as an immune stimulant [40]. The E. hirta is also a plant species that contains chemicals with pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial effects [41,42].…”

“…Aeromonas hydropilla is one of the bacteria that often attacks freshwater farmed fish (Triyaningsih et al, 2014;Orsi et al, 2017) which causes the disease Motile Aeromonas Septicemia or MAS (Susandi et al, 2017;Rosidah et al, 2019a ), which can cause up to 100% mortality (Rosidah et al, 2019b). Meanwhile, Vibrio alginolyticus is a bacterial pathogen in marine fish farming which can cause economic losses (Unisa et al, 2017), which is known as the disease Vibriosis (Scarano et al, 2014;Noerbaeti, 2016).…”
