The purpose of this study is to develop an effective training model for practising basic tennis groundstrokes for children aged 8-12 years old based on the action method coaching framework. Adopting the research and development stages as suggested by Borg and Gall (2003), this study included such stages as conducting preliminary research, identifying the theoretical bases for the model, designing the model, developing the components of exercises, and validating the finished model. The present study employed several methods including in-depth interviews, literature studies, as well as Delphi method to seek experts’ judgement. The data were analyzed by considerations of data reduction and thematic coding before the results were presented and conclusions were drawn. Additionally, this study also incorporated some close-ended questionnaire items and analyzed them by means of descriptive statistics to further confirm the findings. The findings suggest that the groundstroke training model based on the action method developed is declared feasible and approved for future small-scale field testing.

Introduction: Functional training values the athletes’ physical activity and the integral exercise proper of the practiced sport. Tennis frequently integrates this exercise into regular training, aiming to enrich teaching. Objective: Compare the effects of functional training in daily exercise on the tennis players’ strokes based on the athletes’ performance. Methods: A research sample of 18 young male tennis players in tennis clubs were used. The volunteers were randomly divided into two groups, control and experimental. The control group received traditional physical training methods in their daily training. The experimental group had functional physical training added to their daily training. Before and after training, the ITN and functional movement screening methods were used to study the hitting quality of the tennis players. Finally, a mathematical and statistical analysis of the results ascertained in the tests was performed. Results: After 12 weeks, the mean level and accuracy of the experimental group were significantly higher (P<0.05). The control group showed a slight improvement in the mean level and ball accuracy but without statistical significance (P>0.05). Conclusion: Functional training associated with regular training positively improved the quality of hitting in tennis players. The ability of eye-hand coordination is needed in table tennis performance. Therefore, measuring the eye-hand coordination of table tennis performance is necessary. This study aimed to develop a measuring instrument for table tennis eye coordination and test its validity and reliability. This study uses mixed methods-data collection using the Delphi technique and test-retest. The participants were three academic experts, four table tennis professional experts, and fourteen table tennis athletes. This research instrument uses a questionnaire with a rating scale of one to four, namely very relevant, relevant, less relevant, and irrelevant. It uses a measuring instrument for hand-eye coordination. Data analysis used Aiken's formula, Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC), and Cronbach Alpha. The results of this study that measuring eye-hand coordination of table tennis performance show the first aspect: the suitability of the coordination concept has a value of V = 0.952, the second aspect: the suitability of the number of stimuli has a value of V = 0.857, the third aspect: the suitability of distance has a value of V = 0.952, the fourth aspect: the suitability of the movement has a value of V = 0.857, the fifth aspect: the suitability of the test procedure has a value of V = 0.857. The Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC) test has a value of 0.875. The reliability test has a value of 0.891. Based on these results, the eye-hand coordination measuring instrument has content validity and high reliability. Therefore, the eye-hand coordination measuring instrument can be used to measure table tennis performance.
