The effect of the pulsatile electromagnetic field in children suffering from bronchial asthma

Abstract: From the bibliography it is well known that pulsatile electromagnetic field has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. It causes vasodilatation, myorelaxation, hyper-production of connective tissue and activation of the cell membrane. Therefore our aim was to study the possible therapeutic effect of pulsatile electromagnetic field in asthmatic children. Forty-two children participating in this study were divided in two groups. The 1st group consisting of 21 children (11 females, 10 males, aged 11.8 +/- 0.4… Show more

“…In addition to this naturally occurring magnetic field, humans are now exposed to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) more than ever as electrical technology becomes increasingly ubiquitous . Thus, there are growing concerns in public health regarding the potential consequences of increasing exposure to man-made electromagnetic fields. Epidemiological studies show that exposure to EMF is associated with a risk of cancer and other diseases. , However, this myriad of studies suggests that there is a general agreement on the effects of EMFs on biological systems.…”

“…This type of therapy has been most studied in osteogenesis stimulation [48] and in muscleskeleton disorders such as osteoarthritis [49], fibromyalgia [50], rotator cuff tendinitis [51] and lateral epycondilitis [52].In neurology its use has focused on diabetic peripheral neuropathy [53]. The rationale for this therapy is that it has a stimulating effect on biological processes [54].…”

“…Two of the three studies [16,17] included in this review were assessed to have a score of 7 or higher (Table 3). These are the ones that have a high degree of methodological integrity.…”

“…These are the ones that have a high degree of methodological integrity. The remaining one article [9] scored the lowest, with a score of 6. Many of the criteria for acceptance were not met by these articles, calling into question the high standard of the methodology for RCTs, as no allocation was made, and neither the therapists nor the assessors were blinded to the study, except for Bustamante et al in 2008 [16], where only the assessor was blinded.…”
