The effect of the canal‐filled area on the bacterial leakage of oval‐shaped canals

Abstract: No significant difference in apical sealing and canal-filled area in oval-shaped canals was seen between the three filling techniques. No significant correlation was found between the quality of the apical seal and the filled-area of the root canal space.

“…The use of molars was proposed due to their high incidence in endodontic treatment, and the choice of the distobuccal root of the maxillary molar was based on a standardization criterion 9 . Various bacteria have been used in microleakage studies [17][18]21,25 . However, there is a focus on E. faecalis because of its resistance [19][20]22,24 , survival in nutrient-poor areas over long periods 26 , and association with persistent chronic periapical lesions 27 .…”

“…Definitivamente, el sellado del conducto radicular mejora entre más gutapercha exista y menos cemento presente. Dicha situación hace pensar que todos los conductos radiculares, incluyendo los que presenten anatomías complejas, deberían ser obturados con técnicas de gutapercha caliente, más que con técnicas en frío (27).…”

“…16 This individual anatomic post favors the adaptation of the post to root walls and reduces resin cement thickness. 15 The procedure of "individualizing" the post through resin layer, although advisable in all cases, appears to be particularly effective to improve post retention when dealing with canals of elliptic shape, or exhibiting a reduced amount of residual root structure after endodontic treatment. This latter situation obviously contraindicates further removal of dentin to make the canal shape match the post shape.…”

“…14 In some cases, if the post does not fit well, especially at the coronal level, the resin cement layer is excessively thick, and bubbles are likely to form, thus predisposing it to debonding. 15 The solution to overcome this problem is to reline the fiber post with composite resin. 16 This individual anatomic post favors the adaptation of the post to root walls and reduces resin cement thickness.…”
