The effect of STEM approach on the mathematics literacy ability of elementary school teacher education students

Abstract: This study aims to determine the effect of the STEM approach on mathematics literacy abilities of elementary school teacher education students. The method used in this research is pre-experimental with One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design with a population of semester 2 PGSD students with a total of 188 students. The sample in this study was 50 students. The instruments used include: mathematics literacy ability tests, interviews, and observation instruments. The results showed that: 1) there was an effect of the… Show more

“…Students can actively design and assemble diverse objects, gaining a solid understanding of programming concepts (Ibrahim et al, 2020;Papadakis et al, 2022;Paucar-Curasma et al, 2023). Research demonstrates that Lego educational robotics kits enable students to easily grasp science and mathematics concepts, empowering them to solve mathematical problems involving proportions, positive and negative numbers, square roots, and algebraic equations (Allen, 2013;Estivill-Castro, 2020;Kelana et al, 2020;Rahman, 2021;Whitman & Witherspoon, 2003).…”

“…This aligns with research by Çakıroğlu et al (2023), which states that virtual reality can enhance students' mathematical literacy. Other research suggests that incorporating STEM concepts into learning can help students improve their mathematical literacy (Kelana et al, 2020;Hadiyanti et al, 2021).…”
