The Effect of Spinning Draft on Irregularity and Faults Part II: Experimental Studies

Abstract: Comparison of computer-simlated drafting with experiment shows that an Irregularity mechanism is present at the spinning frame but that its effects differ from those of some commonly proposed mechanisms. The strength of the mechanism Is shown to be a nuch more important determinant of yarn evenness than the evenness of the roving. This leads to the prediction, for example, that five gillings, rather than three, after combing should have a negligible effect on yam evenness if the saoie linear density of roving … Show more

“…Obviously, sirofil yarns have a higher CVm value than other composite yarns. Since better evenness would be obtained from drafting of multiple strands than from that of a combined strand, 21,22 both rovings close to each other in the sirofil system could be a reason for the higher irregularity of sirofil spun yarns. Another important factor could be that highest random loss of staple fibers might lead to the worst weight variation along the sirofil yarn lengthwise.…”

“…More than three gill box drawings after the second combing did not facilitate better yarn unevenness and imperfections. 18 Similarly, the number of doublings and draft ratios for gill drawing, roving and the ring frame have a significant effect on yarn unevenness. 19,20 Better regularity as well as yarn strength can be achieved by increasing the mean fiber length for wool yarns spun in the long staple worsted system.…”
