The Effect of Resveratrol on Blood Glucose and Blood Lipids in Rats with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract: Background. Previous studies have reported that resveratrol has various biological effects such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitumor. This study aimed to investigate the effects of resveratrol on blood glucose and blood lipids in rats with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods. The rat diabetes model was prepared by one-time intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ, 35 mg/kg). Fasting blood glucose was measured by using a blood glucose meter. The ELISA method was used to detect the l… Show more

“…Specifically, in the 240 mg kg −1 resveratrol treatment group, plasma leptin, resistin, TNF-α, and IL-6 levels decreased significantly, whereas adiponectin levels increased significantly. 84 In a genetic model of GDM, C57BL/KsJ-Lep db/+ (db/+) mice, treatment with 10 mg kg −1 resveratrol before and during pregnancy significantly reduced hyperglycemia, improved insulin resistance, and improved reproductive outcomes. 85 In a mouse model of high-fat-diet (HFD)-induced GDM, dietary intervention with resveratrol reduced body weights and alleviated glucose and insulin intolerance in mice with GDM.…”

“…RSV (240 mg/kg) was also more effective than metformin hydrochloride at regulating adipokine levels, controlling blood cholesterol levels, and increasing insulin secretion. RSV lowered blood glucose and body weight, increased insulin secretion, and controlled plasma adipokines and blood lipids in GDM rats in a dose-dependent manner[ 41 ].…”

“…In preclinical research, RSV could modify the lipid profile by decreasing the serum TG and LDL, as well as increasing HDL in Wistar rats [ 60 ], streptozotocin-induced gestational diabetes model rats [ 61 ], KKAy mice [ 39 ], ApoE −/− mice [ 62 ], high-fat-diet-fed mice [ 63 ], and healthy crossbred pigs [ 64 ] ( Table S1 ). Thus, researchers performed various clinical trials to explore the lipid-lowering effects of RSV in different population cohorts ( Table 1 ).…”
