The Effect of Resveratrol and Static Magnetic Field Interactions on the Oxidation–Reduction Parameters of Melanoma Malignant Cells

Abstract: Background: Scientific research has confirmed the biological activity of resveratrol, which includes its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective and anticancer properties. There is no known interaction between a static magnetic field and resveratrol that can modulate resveratrol’s effect on cells. Thus, the main aim of our research was to assess the effect of the co-exposure to resveratrol and a static magnetic field on the oxidation–reduction homeostasis of C32 and Colo829 melanoma cells. Methods: Th… Show more

“…We found that the SMF has a protective effect on cancer cells and normalizes the activity of antioxidant enzymes, MDA concentration, and the expression of the tested genes to values similar to those of control cultures. We obtained similar results in our previous studies, in which an SMF abolished the anticancer properties of resveratrol [28]. In contrast, the study by Yang et al [19] found that the 88 h effects of an SMF treatment with 9.4 T induction depend on the direction of SMF action.…”

“…The activity of SOD, GPx, and CAT antioxidant enzymes was determined using test kits from Cayman Chemical (Cayman Chemical, Ann Arbor, MI, USA) and performed according to the protocol provided by the manufacturer. A detailed description of the tests performed was presented in previous works [ 28 ].…”

“…The increase in ROS production in these seeds was facilitated by the oxidative peroxidase reaction [41], while the antioxidants promote the removal of excess free radicals [42]. The balance between ROS production and its scavenging has a better effect on the germination of seeds treated with a MF [43]. In addition, MF influences cell membrane structure by increasing permeability and ion transport through ion channels [44] and influencing several metabolic activities [45].…”

“…RSV is a powerful antioxidant known as a "photochemopreventive agent" that can improve the damages provoked by UVB exposure to the epidermis. In a study on hairless mice, the topical application of RSV suppressed the UVB-induced effects, such as an increase in bifold skin thickness, skin edema, induction of COX and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) enzyme activities, and protein expression of ODC, which are important factors in tumor development [113,114].…”
