Objective: To assess whether there are differences in psychological empowerment between different health professionals working in a teaching hospital. Method: A comparative, quantitative, and cross-sectional study carried out with 165 professionals selected at random and who worked in a teaching hospital in the inland of the state of São Paulo. The participants were divided into three groups: 1) nurses, 2) physicians, and 3) other professionals (physiotherapists, psychologists, pharmacists, speech therapists, social workers, and nutritionists). For data collection, a form was used to characterize the sample, as well as the Brazilian version of the Psychological Empowerment Instrument. To compare the scores between the three groups, the Kruskal-Wallis test was used, followed by Dunn' post-test. Results: Nurses, physicians, and other professionals scored 71.4; 69.3, and 71.1 points (p=0.5959), respectively, in the total score of the instrument Conclusion: There are no statistically significant differences in the perception of psychological empowerment of different health professionals. Conclusion: There are no statistically significant differences in the perception of psychological empowerment of different health professionals.

Introduction: Empowering nurses is essential for improving work outcomes, and understanding the role of structural and psychological empowerment in supporting nurses’ work motivation and occupational mental health are essential to stimulate nurses’ productivity and preserve their mental health. Objectives: To evaluate nurses’ perspectives about the levels of structural and psychological empowerment in their working areas. Additionally, to evaluate nurses’ motivation and occupational mental health, and to predict the nurses’ motivation and occupational mental health through structural and psychological empowerment. Methods: A descriptive correlational design and quota sampling were used. Two hundred registered nurses were recruited from two hospitals in Jordan. Data were collected using four valid and reliable self-report questionnaires. Results: Nurses who participated in this study were young and have an average total experience in nursing of fewer than 10 years. Nurses in this study reported a moderate level of structure empowerment and a low level of psychological empowerment. Significant positive relationships were documented between both structural, psychological empowerment, and nurses’ work motivation ( r = 0.85), ( r = 0.83) respectively. A significant negative relationship found between both structural, psychological empowerment, and nurses’ occupational mental health ( r = −0.31), ( r = −0.29) respectively. Conclusions: The levels of nurses’ work motivation and occupational mental health can be predicted through the levels of structural and psychological empowerment. The higher workplace empowerment was associated with increased work motivation, as well as reduced the feeling of occupational stress among nurses. Thus, administrators should invest in fostering structural and psychological empowerment in the work environment.

Conflitos de interesse: nada a declarar. ResumoObjetivo: Explorar as associações entre o empoderamento psicológico de profissionais de enfermagem e o ambiente da prática, o clima de segurança e as variáveis sociodemográficas e laborais. Métodos:Estudo quantitativo e correlacional. A população foi constituída por 64 profissionais de enfermagem atuantes em quatro serviços de hemodiálise localizados no Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Para a coleta de dados, foram aplicados: questionário de caracterização sociodemográfica e laboral, as versões brasileiras do Psychological Empowerment Instrument, do Practice Environment Scale e o domínio Clima de segurança do Safety Attitudes Questionnaire. Os dados foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva, testes de associação e regressão linear.Resultados: A média geral do empoderamento psicológico foi 68,7 (DP=10,8), do ambiente da prática 2,9 pontos (DP=0,8) e do clima de segurança 71,1 (DP=19,5). Foram encontradas evidências de associações positivas e de forte intensidade do empoderamento psicológico e o ambiente da prática (r=0,57; p<0,001) e o clima de segurança (r=0,62; p<0,001). Cada ponto no domínio do clima de segurança e no ambiente da prática elevou, respectivamente, 0,24 (p<0,001) e 4,17 (p=0,021), em média, os valores do empoderamento psicológico. Simultaneamente, os valores do ambiente da prática e do clima de segurança influenciaram o empoderamento psicológico em 44%. Os sensos de autodeterminação (p=0,007) e de impacto (p=0,019) foram mais elevados entre os enfermeiros.Conclusão: O empoderamento psicológico dos profissionais de enfermagem é influenciado pelas características do ambiente da prática, pelo clima de segurança e pela categoria profissional.
