The Effect of Methyl Cyanoacrylate Tissue Adhesive on the Human Fallopian Tube and Endometrium

Abstract: When the liquid tissue adhesive methyl-2-cyanoacrylate polymerized on the endometrium and Fallopian tube lining a temporary localized histotoxic effect was produced. The toxicity was confined to the superficial layers of cells which underwent round cell infiltration followed by fibrous tissue replacement with loss of the original epithelium. The thickness of secretory endometrium prevented damage to the basal layers and allowed the endometrium to regenerate. The basal layers of proliferative endometrium were i… Show more

“…Follow‐up of these cases by HSG for 2 years confirmed tubal occlusion . In human, methyl cyanoacrylate applied to Femcept device for tubal sterilization had led to decreased amount of menstrual blood in 40% of patients possibly as a result of severe tissue reaction with endometrial damage . However, evaluation of hysteroscopic tubal occlusion with iso‐amyl‐2‐cyanoacrylate in sterilization, will still require a larger sample size with a longer period of follow‐up.…”

“…37 On the other hand, the report on the use of methyl cyano-acrylate on animal model revealed a severe tissue reaction with necrosis 13 . In human, methyl cyano-acrylate applied to Femcept device for tubal occlusion had lead to decreased amount of menstrual blood in 40% of patients possibly as a result of severe tissue reaction with endometrial damage 38,39 . On the other hand, the use of Adiana® silicon inserts and Essure® micro inserts is associated with intense inflammation and fibrosis in the uterine tube beside the high cost of both methods and the Nickel allergy with Essure 40 .…”
