The effect of mesenchymal stem cells combined with platelet‐rich plasma on skin wound healing

Abstract: In light of the MSCs' high capability of proliferation and multilineage differentiation as well as their significant role in modulating immunity, these cells can be used in combination with tissue engineering techniques. Moreover, the MSCs' secretions can be used in cell therapy to heal many types of wounds. The combination of MSCs and PRP aids wound healing which could potentially be used to promote wound healing.

“…This is coupled with the up-regulation of ITGA6 via LR-PRP, which promotes the recruitment of human mesenchymal stem cells to wounded tissue, and the assembly of hemidesmosomes in aide of keratinocyte migration [31]. Hence, ITGA6's profound mitogenic effect on stem cell proliferation could anticipate LR-PRP as a less expensive and lower risk substitute to the harvesting of stem cells [82]. Moreover, ITGB4, which is down-regulated via LR-PRP indicates the presence of fibroblast growth factors released from fibroblasts by the stimulation of the LR-PRP.…”

“…Some other studies revealed, that treatment using MSCs combined with platelet rich plasma (PRP) -an increased concentration of platelets in small volume of plasma after centrifugation -increases wound healing rates by promoting re-epithelialization and regulating inflammatory processes (Mahmoudian-Sani et al, 2018;Roubelakis et al, 2014;Stessuk et al, 2016;Wang and Avila, 2007). Stem cells can be also pretreated by various chemicals like for example emu oil emulsified in egg lecithin and butylated hydroxytoluene.…”
