The Effect of Humidity on Dielectric Properties of PP-Based Nano-Dielectric

Abstract: Nano-dielectrics are sensitive to humidity and easily degraded in damp environment because of the high surface energy of nanoparticles. In order to study the effect of humidity on the dielectric properties of nano-dielectric, polypropylene (PP) was modified by polyolefin elastomer (POE) and nano-SiO2, and the samples with obvious filling concentration were pre-selected by breakdown strength for damp aging. The aging experiments were carried out in different relative humidity. The dielectric properties of new, … Show more

“…Yang et al found that under a high electric field, moisture absorption decreased the dielectric properties of the MgO/LDPE nanocomposite, while under a low electric field, the nanocomposites maintained the ability to inhibit the accumulation of space charge [ 18 ]. Chi et al found that the performance of polypropylene-based (PP) nano-dielectrics degraded obviously in a humid environment [ 19 ]. To the best of our knowledge, there are few reports on the moisture absorption characteristics of nano-doped SiR.…”

“…Polyolefin resins are often used as high-frequency dielectric materials because of their characteristics of low polarizability and good dielectric performance [ 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 ]. The low polarity of C-H (the electronegativity of C is 2.5, that of H is 2.1) in the molecular chain of polyolefin resin and the conformation of the molecular chain arranged in a zigzag plane provide the resin with excellent dielectric properties [ 12 , 13 , 14 ].…”
