The effect of graphitized carbon on the adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue over TiO2/C composites

Abstract: The TiO2/C composites with approximately 40 wt% of carbon were prepared by calcination of precursors, formed from a one-pot liquid phase reaction between Ti(SO4)2 and flour.

“…Moreover, the D band is attributed to the breathing modes of sp 2 atoms in hexagons. The band that appears between the D and G bands is due to both sp 2 and sp 3 carbons that are not crystallized. It also occurs because of the hydrogen and oxygen in carbon. ,, …”

“…It also occurs because of the hydrogen and oxygen in carbon. 46,49,50 The pain parameter calculated to determine the crystallinity of carbon is the intensity ratio of the D and G bands (I D /I G ), where the intensity represents the molecular vibrations entailed in the Raman process. Defects in two-dimensional (2D) lattices are categorized into two: zero-dimensional (0D) and onedimensional (1D) defect.…”

“…6–8 Thus, design of visible-light-driven photocatalysts with high charge separation efficiency and outstanding photocatalytic activity will play a key role for practical demand. Up to now, the widely exploited semiconductor photocatalysts mainly focused on metal oxides, modified metal oxides and sulfides such as TiO 2 , 9 ZnO, 10 BiOBr/Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 , 11 Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 /g-C 3 N 4 , 12 BiOCl@CeO 2 , 13 S-doped ZnO, 14 TiO 2 /C, 15 S/Cl-C 3 N 4 . 16 Unfortunately, high recombination rate of electron–hole pairs, photocorrosion and limited visible light photo-absorptivity restrict its practical application.…”
