The Effect of Dwarfing Interstocks on Vegetative Growth, Fruit Quality and Ionome Nutrition of ‘Fuji’ Apple Cultivar ‘Tianhong 2’—A One-Year Study

Abstract: Dwarfing interstocks play an essential role in determining the performance of fruit trees. SH40, Jizhen 1, and Jizhen 2 are widely used dwarfing interstocks in Hebei Province, China. This study examined the influence of these three dwarfing interstocks on vegetative growth, fruit quality and yield, and leaf and fruit macro- (N, P, K, Ca, and Mg) and micro- (Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, and B) element contents for ‘Tianhong 2’. Five-year-old ‘Fuji’ apple cultivar, ‘Tianhong 2’, on ‘Malus. Robusta’ rootstock, was cultivated … Show more

“…Numerous dwarf lines of Malus have been discovered [10,43,44], and widely accepted standards for evaluating dwarfing rootstocks have been established [38,45]. Additionally, some studies have attempted to explain the mechanism of occurrence of dwarf phenotypes from various perspectives, including the role of phytohormones and nutrient metabolism [46,47]. In this study, the Dwf mutant exhibited phenotypic changes in various organs (Figures 1 and 2).…”

“…Fruit vitamin C (Vc) content was determined by using the 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol titration method [28]. Fruit hardness was assessed by using a GY-1 hardness tester [29]. Ten replicates were used for determining these variables.…”
