The Effect of Body Mass Index on Patient and Graft Survival Rate in Kidney Transplanted Patients in Iran

Abstract: Background: The number of patients with overweight and obesity requiring renal transplant in the past 2 decades increased considerably. Objectives: The current study aimed at evaluating the effect of body mass index (BMI) on graft and patients survival rate. Design: In the current retrospective, cross sectional study, transplant recipients were divided into 3 groups based on their BMI: group 1 (BMI < 18.5 kg/m 2 ), group 2 (BMI = 18.5 to 25 kg/m 2 ), and group 3 (BMI > 25 kg/m 2 ). Kaplan-Meier formula was use… Show more

“…Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) involves a range of different pathophysiological processes associated with abnormal renal function and progressive decline in glomerular filtration rate ( 1 , 2 ). The end stage renal disease is irreversible impairment of renal function, to the extent that the patient becomes permanently dependent on alternative therapies, especially in children ( 1 , 3 ). The incidence rate of chronic kidney disease among children in Iran is 16.8 per million, and the rate of kidney transplantation among children is 7.2 per million ( 4 ).…”
