“…Various studies reveal that the knowledge and practices of male and female teachers on understanding the earthquake concept and disaster management are at an unsatisfactory level and need to be improved. Furthermore, the findings of this study are in line with those conducted overseas (Sozen, 2019;Panic, 2013;Tuswadi & Hayashi, 2014;Ganpatrao, 2014;Mutch, 2015;Ersoy & Kocak, 2015;Kaya & Aladag, 2017;Lehane & Bertram, 2016;Bulunuz & Jarrett, 2009). This unsatisfactory situation results in information on earthquakes being delivered inaccurately and ineffectively to students in the classroom.…”

“…Bilgi çağının içinde bulunduğumuz bu dönemde Türkiye'de uygulanan eğitim modelinde temel amaç, öğrenciye doğrudan ham bilgiyi aktarmaktan çok, onlara bilgiye ulaşma yollarını göstermek olmalıdır. Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı 2005 yılından itibaren uygulanan ders öğretim programlarında da bu durum hedeflenmektedir (Çomak & Güncegörü, 2012;Turoğlu, 2006;Sözen, 2019). Bu becerilerin kazandırıldığı derslerin başında fen bilimleri dersleri yer almaktadır.…”

(Aksoy & Sözen, 2014;Altay, 2008;Çakar, 2008;Çelik, Dur & Bayar, 2016;Çoban, Sözbilir & Göktaş, 2017;Değirmençağ & Cin, 2016;Doğan & Koç, 2017;Karakuş, 2013;Öcal, 2007;Öztürk, 2013;Sözen, 2019;Yükseller, 2019). A similar situation is also noticeable in studies conducted outside Turkey (Izadkhah & Gibbs, 2015;Johnson & Ronan, 2014;Navakanesh, Shah & Prasanna, 2019;Mutch, 2015;Tsai, 2001).…”
