The dynamics of aloof baby Skyrmions

Abstract: Abstract:The aloof baby Skyrme model is a (2+1)-dimensional theory with solitons that are lightly bound. It is a low-dimensional analogue of a similar Skyrme model in (3+1)-dimensions, where the lightly bound solitons have binding energies comparable to nuclei. A previous study of static solitons in the aloof baby Skyrme model revealed that multi-soliton bound states have a cluster structure, with constituents that preserve their individual identities due to the short-range repulsion and long-range attraction … Show more

“…In the appendix, we discuss a pointparticle approximation which can be used to mimic some of the features of the complicated scattering dynamics in this model. Note that a point particle approximation very much similar to ours has been previously discussed in Salmi and Sutcliffe's work [64] on skyrmion solutions in the lightly bound baby Skyrme model. Their motivation for studying the dynamics of baby Skyrmions [65][66][67] is that it is a toy model for Skyrmions [68,69], a soliton model for nuclear physics.…”

“…The initial values of the multi-skyrmion solutions are constructed using the product ansatz [37,38]. Explicitly, the initial value of the baryon number state is constructed using the solutions of the two statesclusters-which are far away from each other.…”
