The Draeger autotonometer: its advantages and limits

Abstract: picture changes and ladders can be seen, indicating apoptosis. Apoptotic phenomena are not yet clearly evident at 6 hours after treatment, but they reach their maximum at 24 hours after treatment and can still be found at 48 hours. This indicates hypertonic induction in retinal cells of both necrotic activity and damage the cells try to repair and which, if repair mechanisms are not efficient, induce the cells to a "suicide" to protect the retina.
