The dissociative ionization of methyl fluoride. The formation of CH2+ and CH3+

Abstract: The decay of ionized CH 3 F was investigated in the CH 2 + and CH 3 + dissociation channels by electro-ionization and fixed-wavelength photo-ionization using the He(I) and Ne(I) resonance lines. The translational energy spectra, ionization efficiency curves and kinetic energy vs. appearance energy diagrams of both ions were measured. Although dissociative autoionization is the prominent dissociation mechanism for the appearance of CH 2 + and CH 3 + , direct dissociative ionization is observed for CH 2 + at 23.… Show more

“…Under non-coincidence conditions, a fixed wavelength photoionization experiment [4,5] using the HeI (58.4 nm) and NeI (73.58-74.37 nm) resonance lines showed "thermal" as well as "energetic" CH 3 + ions at both wavelengths, in agreement with the electroionization results. The two components of the ion kinetic energy distribution have about the same integrated intensity.…”

“…The CH 3 + ion production from CH 3 F has recently been reinvestigated by dissociative electroionization with ion energy analysis [4]. “…passing through a maximum value at E T =0.4 eV, it decreases linearly over the 1.0-1.8 eV range. A bi-modal character of surprisal diagrams has occasionally been reported [6] #1 , [7][8][9] and attributed to the simultaneous existence of two dynamical behaviours in the process under consideration. It may be that the observed diagram, represented in fig.…”

“…In the recent past, we thoroughly investigated several molecular systems, e.g. the monohalogenated derivatives of methane CH 3 F [1][2][3][4][5], CH 3 Cl [6][7][8] and CH 3 Br [9][10][11].…”
