A mass spectrometric photoionization study of CH3F. The CH+2, CH+3 and CH2F+ ion formation

Abstract: The decay of CH 3 F + in the CH 2 + , CH 3 + and CH 2 F + dissociation channels has been investigated by photoionization mass spectrometry using synchrotron radiation in the energy range 10-25 eV. The photoabsorption curve of CH 3 F and the ionization efficiency curves of CH 2 + , CH 3 + and CH 2 F + as well as the translational energy spectra and the kinetic energy versus appearance energy diagram for CH 3 + were recorded. For the three fragment ions dissociative autoionization is a prominent formation proces… Show more

“…The remaining question is the lack of any CH 3 + signal in the photo-ionization efficiency curve of CH 3 + in the range 14.6-16.25 eV. In work which is still in progress [12], the photo-ionization and dissociation of CH 3 F has been reinvestigated using synchrotron radiation. The CH 3 + photo-ionization efficiency curve recorded in the range 12-25 eV photon energy unambiguously shows the existence of the process with an appearance energy at 14.65 eV.…”

“…These ions are observed in He<I) and Ne(I) photo-ion energy spectra. Furthermore, in photo-ionization work which is still in progress [12], the CH 3 + ions, appearing at 14.5 eV, have been detected. The kinetic energy vs. appearance energy diagram related to the CH 3 + ion formation has been discussed.…”

“…by ion kinetic energy analysis in photoionisation mass spectrometry. 42 It is also interesting to note that the upper-limit value tends toward the accurate value as the size of the halogen atom increases from F to…”

“…During the last decade our laboratory paid a lot of attention to the V-UV spectroscopy, the photoelectron spectroscopy [Threshold (TPES), Constant Ion State (CIS) and He-I] and the mass spectro-metric photoionization of the monohalogenated derivatives of methane, i.e., CH 3 F [14][15][16][17], CH 3 C1 [18][19][20], and recently CH 3 Br [21][22][23].…”
