The D-Systems Project - Wireless Sensor Networks for Car-Park Management

Abstract: Abstract-Wireless sensor networks are collections of autonomous devices with computational, sensing and wireless communication capabilities. Research in this area has been growing in the past few years given the wide range of applications that can benefit from such a technology. This paper reports on a joint project between The Tyndall National Institute and the Computer Science Department at University College Cork, Ireland in developing a novel miniaturised modular platform for wireless sensor networks. The … Show more

“…Hardware & Software tools used in the mini-project:  Two IR sensors  LCD display  Arduino IDE 1.8  Servo motor  Arduino UNO  Toy car  Power supply 5. Methodology  Also, an LCD display is placed at the entrance, which is used to show the availability of parking slots in the parking area [7].  After entering the car into the parking area, when it will occupy a slot, then the display shows this slot is full [15].…”

“…A filtering window creating module creates filtering windows that are required by the use of follow-up modules. The noise estimate module estimates the type of noise, so that the best kind of filtering approach can be decided [28] [29]. It counts the rows and columns of the input data to determine whether the window can be legitimately done by the counter's function and then to count the lawful window data to determine the output data in an image location.…”

“…A detection scheme relying on magnetometer signature measurements is proposed in [32] and implemented on Mica2 motes. The use of tiered architecture for the implementation of the car-park management system using the DSYS25z [33] magnetic sensor boards developed by Tyndall [30] is proposed in [34] as part of D-Systems Project [35]. The problems associated with wireless communications in parking lot environment are highlighted, and recommendations of dynamic and robust routing, delayed retransmissions are proposed on the basis of experimental results for overcoming the problems.…”
