The current state and efficiency use of in situ and ex situ conservation units for seed harvesting in the central part of Ukraine

Abstract: Significant increase of biological stability, timber volume, and economic value of forests is impossible without refinement and improvement of the organization, and implementation of forest seed production on a genetic and breeding basis. It is possible to solve this task by creating and efficiently functioning in situ and ex situ facilities. In Ukraine, the basic principles of plus selection are envisaged, which include the selection and testing progeny of plus trees. The total number of progeny tests in Ukra… Show more

“…Despite the significant representation of the principal forest-forming species populations, their area remains catastrophically low (Hayda, Yu., et al 2008, Yurkiv andNeyko 2017). Their total share in relation to the forest area of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe is just about 0.3-0.5% (Neyko et al 2019). Our research shows that a significant number of the gene pool preservation ob-jects in situ have an area of no larger than 1.0 ha and are widely scattered.…”

“…What is the age category of its visitors (children, youth, adults or retirees)? These are the basic questions to be answered before you start to design a winter garden, since the things of the winter garden that are interesting for the children may not impress the adults Monarkh, 2019: Votinov, 2011: Mazur, 2019: Neyko, 2019.…”

“…Later, Norway, Sweden, and Finland implemented the Danish system, and in early 1979, a joint Scandinavian research project was launched to develop and coordinate Nordic forest tree improvement information systems (Ditlevsen 1979). Currently, in Europe, the EUFGIS (the European Information System on Forest Genetic Resources) (EUFGIS 2023) under the auspices of EUFORGEN (European Forest Genetic Resources Programme) (EUFORGEN 2023), in which Ukraine also participates, serves as a documentation platform linking national forest genetic resources (FGR) inventories (Neyko et al 2019). This information system provides cartographic information on the conservation of forest genetic resources in Europe and access to detailed data on genetic conservation units of forest tree species in different countries.…”
