The age of the Maeotian transgression is seriously disputed with ~5 Myr age discrepancies between the different models (11.6 Ma—Moghadam, ; 10.5 Ma—Rögl, ; Maţenco, Bertotti, Cloetingh, & Dinu, ; 9.8 Ma—Semenenko, Andreeva‐Grigorovich, Maslun, & Lulieva, ; Gozhyk, Semenenko, Andreeva‐Grigorovich, & Maslun, ; 9;.5 Ma—Nevesskaya, Goncharova, Ilyina, Paramonova, & Khondkarian, ; 8.85 Ma—Andreescu, 2009; 8.6 Ma—Vasiliev et al., ; 7.6 Ma—Trubikhin, ; Radionova et al., ) and the underlying tectonic or climatic triggering mechanisms are therefore still unexplained.…”
