The Correlation Among Coat Color and Body Weight of Local Sheep in Indonesia

Abstract: A study was conducted to investigate the correlation between coat color scoring and the body weight of local sheep in Indonesia. A total of 469 sheep belong to Tawakkal Farm were used for the study and kept for 70-90 days with diet consisting of natural grasses, tofu by-product and concentrate mixture. The data comprised of coat color scoring, sex, age, origin and type of sheep as well as body condition score and were analysed using a General Linear Model with body weight as the dependent variable. Sex, age an… Show more

“…For adult ram SSNH, the corresponding correlation values for BW-BL, BW-HS, and BL-HS are 0.83, 0.72, and 0.71. Both groups show high correlation values, similar to the findings in [11], where body weight and body measurements like body length and high shoulder exhibit higher positive correlations. In young ram SSWH, the correlation values between BW-BL, BW-HS, and BL-IOP Publishing doi:10.1088/1755-1315/1292/1/012008 4 HS are 0.61, 0.69, and 0.71, respectively.…”

“…The body weight of male Sakub sheep SSWH (67.23 ± 15.56) kg and SSNH (62.72 ± 14.50) kg was higher than Javanese thin tailed sheep 26.39 kg and Javanese fat tailed sheep 36.10 kg [11]. The shoulder height of ram SSWH sheep (75.23 ± 5.17) is higher than the standard for Garut sheep (74.34) cm [11]. The body length of sheep plays a role in determining carcass quality.…”
