This study was carried out during 2020 and 2021 seasons for examining the effect of single and combined applications of three plant extracts namely green tea extract, turmeric extract and garlic extract each at 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2% on yield and quality of Flame seedless grapes. Single and combined applications of the three plant extracts was very effective in improving some vegetative growth characteristics, vine nutritional status, yield and berry quality over the check treatment. The best plant extract in this respect was garlic extract followed by turmeric extract and green tea extract occupied the last position. Combined applications of these three plant extracts was materially favorable than using each plant extract alone in promoting these characteristics as well as the stimulation was proportional to increase in concentrations from 0.05 to 0.2% for promoting yield and berry quality of Flame seedless grapevines grown under sandy soil, it is advised to spray the grapevines three times at growth start, just after berry setting and one month later with a mixture of green tea extract, turmeric extract and garlic extract each at 0.1%.

Downy mildew is a major threat to viticulture, leading to severe yield loss. The use of traditional copper-based fungicides is effective, but has adverse effects on the environment and human health, making it urgent to develop an environmentally friendly disease management program. Multi-functional kaolin particle film (KPF) is promising as an effective and safer treatment strategy, since this material lacks chemically active ingredients. In this study, ability of Kaolin particle film (KPF) pretreatment to protect grapevine leaves from Plasmopara viticola was tested and the mode of action of KPF was analyzed. KPF application reduced the disease severity and the development of intercellular hyphae. Additionally, there was reduced accumulation of H2O2 and malondialdehyde (MDA) with pretreatment. The observation of ultrastructure on the leaf surface showed KPF deposition and stomatal obstruction, indicating that KPF protected plants against disease by preventing the adhesion of pathogens to the leaf surface and blocking invasion through the stomata. KPF pretreatment also activated host defense responses, as evidenced by increased activities of anti-oxidative enzymes [superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT)] and defense-related enzymes [phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), chitinases, and β-1,3-glucanases], increased phytohormone signals [abscisic acid (ABA), salicylic acid (SA), and jasmonic acid (JA)] and the up-regulation of defense genes related to plant defense. Overall, these results demonstrate that KPF treatment counters grapevine downy mildew by protecting leaves and enhancing plant defense responses.

RESUMOAs doenças fúngicas são um dos principais problemas de interesse econômico na viticultura, devido às grandes perdas registradas. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho foi testar o óleo essencial de alecrim (Rosmarinus officinalis), no controle da antracnose e do míldio da videira. As concentrações de 0, 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 µL L -1 desse óleo essencial foram utilizadas nos seguintes experimentos: crescimento micelial e esporulação de Elsinoe ampelina, germinação de esporângios de Plasmopara viticola e a avaliação da severidade da antracnose e do míldio da videira a campo. Observou-se que a concentração de 4000 µL L -1 de óleo essencial, reduziu em 21% o crescimento micelial de E. ampelina, porém nenhum dos tratamentos apresentou diferença estatística para esporulação desse patógeno. Para a germinação de P. viticola não houve diferença entre os tratamentos. Em condições de campo, verificou-se que a concentração de 4000 µL L -1 , proporcionou redução de aproximadamente 91% da Área Abaixo da Curva do Progresso da Doença (AACPD) da antracnose da videira. Porém para o míldio, não foi relatada diferença estatística. Dessa maneira, a concentração de 4000 µL L -1 de óleo essencial de alecrim, foi eficiente no controle direto sobre E. ampelina, tanto in vitro quanto em campo, mostrando ter grande potencial no manejo integrado de doenças. The purpose of this work was to test the essential oil of Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), without control of anthracnose and of the downy mildew of the vine. The concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 μL L -1 of essential oil were used for the following experiments: mycelial growth and sporulation of Elsinoe ampelina, germination of sporangium Plasmopara viticola and the evaluation of the severity of anthracnose and downy mildew from the field. It was observed that a concentration of 4000 μL L -1 of essential oil, reduced 21% the mycelial growth of E. ampelina, none of the treatments has presented statistic difference for sporulation of this pathogen. For a germination of P. viticola there was not difference between the treatments. Under field conditions, it was found that a concentration of 4000 μL L -1 provided a reduction of about 91% of the Area Under the Disease Progress Curve (AUDPC) of anthracnose of the vine. However, for mildew, no statistical difference was reported. Thus, a concentration of 4000 μL L -1 of essential oil of rosemary was efficient with direct control over E. ampelina, as wel in vitro as in the field, showing great potential with integrated management of diseases.
