The construction process of grounded theory in administration

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the process of grounded theory, from the report of a research practical experience performed in Southern Brazil. It presents conceptual and structural aspects of grounded theory, focusing is on the description of the research process, from a fieldwork, which was carried out in order to understand the implementation phase of performance improvement programs in organizations. The study presents the research process of grounded theory, highlighting the use of analytical tools and resear… Show more

“…To densify these categories, three additional participants from each of the three selected regions were considered purposively based on the emerging categories as the theoretical sample. This means that the researchers continuously identified and compared emerging categories of nurse's views on their understanding of facilitators and returned to the field and recruited more participants to extend categories of the emerging categories 25,26 . Thus, theoretical sampling allowed the researchers to look for data through the views of nurses who knew the facilitators of health advocacy, resulting in nine participants being considered for theoretical sampling.…”

“…In this variation of DSR, the grounded theory methodology has been used to identify common essential concepts among the cyber resilience frameworks. Grounded theory is useful for this purpose since it is a methodology designed to extract concepts out of empirical data [56]. In this case this methodology is used to define a framework for SMEs, similar to the way it is used in other studies to extract essential concepts [57].…”

“…Grounded Theory methodology aims to find new theories from the iterative process of coding and comparing the concepts in the data [58]. Similar to the inductive methodology the grounded theory methodology finds particular cases and tries to generalize these cases into the general concepts that govern them [56]. Many grounded theory analysis are based in document analysis [57], [59] using the documents as a mean of finding particular data that through a systematic process of identifying common grounds can be generalized into a theory [57]- [59].…”

“…Glaser (1992) defined Grounded Theory as a general research methodology for data analysis that is associated with data collection through several systematic stages in order to generate a theory. The Grounded Theory approach has been employed, adapted, and refined in multiple research domains such as administration, nursing, and software engineering (José, Osinski, & Hermann, 2017). It provides researchers with a systematic approach on how to determine categories under the study, how to identify the relationship between categories, and how to establish connections between them.…”
