“…(Morimoto et al 2011), leafy shoots of Cryptomeria japonica (Ishii et al 2011), shoot explants of Anacardium occidentale (Thimmappaiah et al 2002) and Eucalyptus (Hajari et al 2006), and radicles of the olive (Cerezo et al 2011), as well as somatic embryogenesis of Olea europea (Shibli et al 2001). In this study, direct adventitious shoot organogenesis and plant regeneration were first established in N. cadamba using cotyledons as explants.…”

“…For instance, sesame seeds contain 100 times more sesamin than transgenic cells of Forsythia ; however, transgenic cells multiplied 10-times in two weeks [ 433 ], and they can be cultivated without seasonal interruptions. External factors such as light can be optimized in order to maximize sesamin production in cell cultures [ 447 , 448 ]. Culturing conditions exert tremendous effect on the metabolic productivity of tissues and cells.…”

“…Forsythia plants have much greater biomass, with higher amount of lignans, than suspension cell cultures, and these plants can grow and propagate from small explants without flowering or seed formation. However, efficient generation of transgenic Forsythia plants still requires further basic research due to the markedly low transformation efficiency by any known gene transfection methods and deviation among Forsythia species [ 85 , 86 , 87 ]. In contrast, the generation of both stable (namely transgenic) and transient transfectants of Linum species are well established, and thus, the amounts of precursors or intermediates of targeted lignans are major determinants for the employment of cell cultures, organ cultures, or plants as host platforms.…”
