The constituents of essential oil in leaves of Karaj accession of Trigonella foenum graecum

Abstract: The chemical composition of the essential oils of Karaj accession of Trigonella foenum graecum leaves was detected by hydro-distillation and analysed by gas chromatography (GC-FID) and gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) apparatuses for first time. Thirty-six compounds representing 95.3% of the total components were identified. The patterns of the main compounds were (2E)-Hexenal (26.61%), n-Hexadecanoic acid (10.14%) and (E)-b-Ionone (7.99%). Other notable constituents were Thymol (4.79%), 6,10,14-tr… Show more

“…Regarding menthol and γ-n-amylbutyrolactone, data is limited, but these compounds were detected in both oils, and were higher in the EO from Indian fenugreek. Thymol, carvacrol and eugenol have been reported in previous studies and confirmed in the present analysis (Girardon et al 1985;Riasat et al 2017;Naimi et al 2022). Their amounts were higher in Bulgarian seeds.…”

“…These results, which confirm the biological activity of these plants, explain the knowledge and practices in herbal medicine acquired by the inhabitants of the province. In fact, this research opens up new and interesting perspectives in the search for new therapeutic means, which can thus bring effective solutions by the manufacture of medicines sold in pharmacy for people suffering from hypertension acid and oleic acid [190,191] Antioxidant, anti-arthritic, haemato-protective and anticancer [192][193][194] International Journal of Pharmacology, Phytochemistry and Ethnomedicine Vol. 14…”

“…Saturated and unsaturated fatty acids are found in the essential oils of plants. Examples are the plants Trigonella foenum graecum, Micromeria persica Boiss., Avicennia schaueriana Stapf & Leechm, Ligustrum quihoui, Gypsophila laricina Schreb and Lactuca sativa L., whose essential oils contain palmitic acid [26,27,28,29,30,31,32]. Linoleic acid is found in the essential oil of the stems of Vinca major var.…”
